When the average bore roughness depth R_z is specified, the loss of interference due to smoothing of the roughness peaks is considered.
The higher the surface roughness of the mating parts, the greater the smoothing effect; this leads to a loss in interference. As the bearing rings are hardened and precision ground and thus have finer surfaces compared to shaft or casing, the smoothing effect of the bearings can be neglected. Therefore,
Effective interference = interference of the mating parts - gF * Rz
Note: The default smoothing factor value of gF = 0.8 is based on recommentations in "Wälzlagerpraxis," a standard reference. A smoothing factor of g_F=1.4 was used in the older Lager2 calculation kernel from FVA 364.
