The boundary layer factor takes into account the influence of a boundary layer on the fatigue strength of the component. Without boundary layer hardening (or without exact knowledge) this value has to be set to 1.0. Otherwise, it should be set according to the guide values of the FKM guideline (Table 4.3.7) depending on the method of surface layer hardening.
