The two-phase model makes it possible to describe the gas cavitation. According to this model, the pressure-dependent equilibrium between the amount of air dissolved in the oil and the air present as the second phase in the lubricating film is a function of the Bunsen coefficient, which generally depends on the temperature and viscosity of the fluid. The pressure-proportional solubility applies to mineral oils up to approx. 300 bar. In this range, the value αB=0.08 can be used for the Bunsen coefficient.
