The boundary layer factor considers the influence of a boundary layer on the fatigue strength of the component. Without boundary layer hardening (or exact knowledge) this value must be set to 1.0. Otherwise, it should be set according to the guide values in the FKM Guideline (Table 4.3.7), depending on the method of surface layer hardening.
