Normal pressure angle

The helix angle of the skiving cutter.

The cross axis angle Σ is calculated from the helix angle ß of the gear wheel and the helix angle ß₀ of the skiving cutter:

Σ =ß₀ ± ß

According to FVA 661, increasing the helix angle of the skiving cutter has the following effects:

• Reduction of the maximum rake thickness
• Increase in the minimum rake angle
• Increase in the minimum clearance angle
• Reduction of the cutting force
• Increase in the process time
