The tip relief factor applies to gears of ISO accuracy grade up to 6 (ISO 1328-1). For less accurate gears, the factor is set to 1.

The tip relief factor can be determined using the following methods:

Method A

Here, the existing tip relief is taken into consideration in relation to the effective tip relief.
