Utilization

If the utilization is specified, the maximum permissible joint pressure is also implicitly specified, depending on the yield strength of the materials used. The program then calculates the maximum permissible radial stress of the joint for both the shaft and the hub for a purely elastic load, based on the modified shear stress hypothesis. The joint pressure, which is used as an output variable for further calculations, is formed from the minimum of these two values and the specified utilization. If the utilization is not specified, the default values of 90% for solid shafts and 70% for hollow shafts are used for further calculations.
