The ratio of the facewidth to the pitch diameter must be specified for the design calculation.
If the pinion is made of steel and the wheel is made of plastic, the b/d ratio for the wheel is determined from the ratio b/d1. of the pinion and the gear ratio. The calculation of the necessary wheel diameter is an extension of VDI 2736.
According to VDI 2736, b/d1 should be in the range between 0.2 and 2.0.
