Specification of tool data

Cutter module m₀ and tool edge radius ρ_a0 must be specified for the setting calculation of a virtual gear cutting machine in addition to the gear dimension data of ISO 23509. The cutter module m₀ determines cutter parameters of standard cutters, such as cutter height and cutter edge radius as well as the reference point for the cutter sphericity. As an approximation the use of the normal module is possible.

The tool edge radius as well as the cutter module can be preset or determined automatically. The following methods are available for this purpose:

• User specification of module m₀ and tool edge radius ρ_a0
• Determine standard cutter automatically (recommended for cyclo-palloid): A standard cutter module m₀ is determined for the calculated mean normal module m_mn. The tool edge radius is then:  ρ_a0 = 0.3 ⋅ m₀ .
• Calculation from clearance and slot width: Calculation of the maximum tool edge radius from the clearance c = m_mn ⋅ (k_hfp - k_hap) and the minimum slot width, which is determined in a simplified way on the crown gear. The cutter module is set: m₀ = m_mn.
