The reduction of the nominal meshing in axial and circumferential direction can be used for a fast approximation to the final result at a lower meshing level and thus contribute to the calculation time efficiency.
The prerequisite for the grid reduction in the axial direction is that the nominal number of grid nodes in the gap width direction is a power of two and that the number of grid nodes in the gap width direction is ≥ 8.
In the circumferential direction, the nominal number of grid nodes in the circumferential direction of the gap must be > 96 and even, taking into account the automatic modification of the grid by the computing core. This is carried out if the division of the number of grid nodes in the circumferential direction by the number of segments does not deliver an integer result.
If more elaborate geometric details are to be considered or if there is a high number of segments or pockets, a grid reduction should be avoided.
