Deformation behavior

Specification of the deformation behavior (ductile or brittle) is used in the following calculations:

• Calculation of feather keys according to DIN 6892
• Calculation of splines according to FVA 591/DIN 5466
• Capacity calcluation acc. to ISO 6336 Part 3

The material behavior is divided into 3 categories:

• Ductile material behavior with pronounced yield point. In this case, σ_y (R_e) is used. 
• Ductile material behavior without weel-defined yield point. In this case, σ_0.2 (R_0.2) is used. 
• Brittle material behavior. In this case, σ_0.2 (R_0.2) is used. 

The following materials are characterized as brittle in the Materials Database:

• Case-hardened materials
• Nitrided materials
• Cast iron with lamellar graphite

All other materials are predefined as ductile.
