Micropitting and pitting are characteristic fatigue damages on the tooth flank, which lead to a change in the flank geometry. As a result, the load and pressure distribution changes, which can significantly influence the damage modes and the damage progression. In a conventional local load capacity calculation, the calculations are based only on the nominal topography of the flank. In the case of damage simulation, on the other hand, the flank geometry, which changes continuously as a result of damage, is included in the simulation in order to obtain a realistic representation of the flank load capacity. The basis of the damage simulation are the load bearing capacity verifications against micropitting and pitting according to the FVA projects 516 and 411.
The damage simulation is only available for the single stage calculation.
It should be noted that when the damage simulation is activated, no damage accumulation is performed according to the load spectrum calculation, since a change in the flank geometry cannot be taken into account in the damage accumulation.
