When calculating the tooth root geometry, the important variables such as tooth root chord sFn, force application angle αFen, bending lever arm hFe and root rounding radius ρF are calculated. These parameters are included in the calculation of the form factor YF and the stress correction factor YS and determine the tooth root bending stress σF.

The following options are available:

  1. DIN 3990:1987
This type of calculation of the tooth root geometry is described in the ABS and is to be performed.

  2. ISO 6336:2006
This method was used to calculate the tooth root geometry for the ABS in STplus.

  3. ISO 6336:2019
This current and geometrically correct calculation of the tooth root geometry is also already described in the guideline VDI 2737:2016. According to this method, the tooth root geometry of internal gears with a shaper is also done realistically.

The figure shows the root shape parameters at the 30 degree tangent for an external gear.
