Axial bearing operating clearance

IIndicates the operating axial bearing clearance. This includes the effects of the bearing clearance before mounting, the fit during installation, the operating temperature and the operating rotational speed.

• Positive value: Indicates how far the inner ring can be moved from one limit position to the other in the axial direction with the outer ring held in place.
• Negative value: Indicates the extent to which the rolling elements are compressed in the axial direction by the bearing rings.

If there are not 2 limit positions (e.g. with a single row tapered roller bearing), this value is not defined. The operating clearance does not include preload effects and only considers the individual bearing.

In ball and self-aligning bearings, the radial and axial operating clearance are coupled by the curvature of the raceway groove. For cylindrical roller bearings, both values can be specified independently of each other.
